Probe continues in killing of Mexican filmmaker’s father, brother week after bodies found

VERACRUZ, Mexico – Authorities in Mexico’s Gulf coast state of Veracruz say there have been few advances in the investigation into the killings of the father and brother of Mexican movie director Alejandro Monteverde a week after their bodies were found.

Omar Zuniga, spokesman for the Veracruz state prosecutor’s office, said Thursday that the investigation into the slaying of Juan Manuel Gomez Fernandez and Juan Manuel Gomez Monteverde continues.

Officials are testing a vehicle allegedly used by those responsible. It had license plates from the neighbouring state of Tamaulipas, which borders Texas.

The bodies were found Sept. 19 in Pueblo Viejo in the northern part of Veracruz near the border with Tamaulipas. The men had been reported missing Sept. 4.
