Whitecaps battle NYCFC at BC Place

(VANCOUVER) NEWS 1130 – The Vancouver Whitecaps get back to it Saturday night against New York City FC at BC Place. (7pm)

Focus is back on MLS play for Vancouver after a CONCACAF Champions League loss on Wednesday in Seattle. There’s lots to play for with a skilled NYCFC lineup in town. The Whitecaps are very much in the hunt for the Supporters Shield, tied with the other New York franchise – the Red Bulls – at the top of the table. Vancouver can also clinch a playoff spot with a victory over NYCFC on Saturday, coupled with a draw between the San Jose Earthquakes and Real Salt Lake.

With all that to play for, Whitecaps head coach Carl Robinson knows the situation.

“We want to win as many games as we can. A dissapointing result last week, but we have to bounce back. There’s no point in feeling sorry for ourselves. We’re in a good position at the moment. It’s in our hands, we have to take care of business.” Robinson said earlier in the week.

NYCFC comes to Vancouver with momentum on its side following consecutive victories over Toronto and San Jose. The expansion franchise now has a playoff spot to shoot for – Just five points out of a postseason trip with four matches left.

The Whitecaps will also set a franchise record for points in a season – 51- with a victory.
