Six-week BC legislature session begins today

VICTORIA – Liberal House Leader Mike de Jong says the government isn’t planning to sneak any potentially unpopular laws into the legislature this fall while most British Columbians are busy following the federal election.

BC politicians are heading back to the legislature today for a fall session that is expected to last about six weeks.

De Jong says he expects much of the political attention during the first two weeks of the session will be on the federal election, but the government isn’t planning to camouflage any of its actions.

He says election finances, electoral boundaries and possible wild fire policing regulations are likely on the fall agenda.

Opposition New Democrat jobs critic Shane Simpson says the government can expect to face questions about its singular focus on developing liquefied natural gas plants while ignoring other sectors of the B-C economy.

BC is expected to lead the country this year and next year in economic growth.
