Is the relationship changing for the better between teachers and the province?

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Is it a sign of changing times? BC teachers and the government working together on implementing a new curriculum.

The province is committing $1 million dollars toward implementation, it will also give teachers more out of classroom hours and an extra professional development day over the next three years.

The BC Teachers Federation supports the announcement and worked with the province to figure out the details.

While it’s a good sign, this collaboration doesn’t mean you should get too comfortable with the thought of the parties cooperating according to Associate Professor in the UFV School of Business. Fiona McQuarrie.

“There will still be that long history of disputes between the parties. There’s always going to be that initial distrust and that takes a long time to overcome and reverse.”

The Kindergarten to Grade 12 learning plan is supposed to be fully implemented by the 2017-2018 school year.
