DELTA (NEWS 1130) – Anger is growing in our province over a suggestion from Alberta’s new NDP premier to shift the Trans-Mountain pipeline through Delta Port instead of Burrard Inlet.
MLA for Delta South Vicki Huntington says Premier Rachel Notley doesn’t get it.
“She really doesn’t know what she’s talking about,” says Huntington. “Premier Notley needs to have a very good briefing session with her environment department and begin to understand what the Fraser Delta really is in terms of migrating salmon and migrating wildlife.”
Kinder Morgan maintains that the Trans Mountain project is an expansion of its existing pipeline and that its current Westridge terminal in Burnaby is the best option from both a financial and environmental perspective.
“Trans Mountain is confident that expanding our existing facilities is the best option, and the one we chose to pursue,” the company wrote in a filing with the National Energy Board last year. “We feel Westridge terminal is the safest location that will also result in the least environmental impact.”
