Harper refuting suggestions his office tried to stop entry of Syrian refugees

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Prime Minister Stephen Harper insists political staffers do not deal with refugee applications.

He was responding to media reports that suggest his office temporarily halted the entry of Syrian refugees into Canada, citing potential security threats.

His opponents accused him of trying to whip up public safety fears ahead of the federal election.

Harper defended the PMO’s audit of the applications but says final decisions come from Citizenship and Immigration.
