Rangers beat Jays in extra innings to take 2-0 series lead

TORONTO (NEWS 1130) – Hanser Alberto delivered the go-ahead run with an RBI single in the top of the 14th inning as the Texas Rangers defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 6-4 in Game 2 of their American League Division Series.

Alberto hit the third of three straight singles surrendered by Toronto reliever LaTroy Hawkins to score Rougned Odor from second base. Delino DeShields followed with an RBI single off reliever Liam Hendriks.

Odor scored after a video review determined he was safe at second. The Jays challenged the umpire’s initial call, saying Odor’s foot came off the bag as he was tagged by shortstop Troy Tulowitzki.

Texas now takes a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series back home to Arlington for Sunday’s Game 3.

Ben Revere gave the Jays their first lead of the series with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth, but pinch-hitter Mike Napoli’s single off Brett Cecil tied it in the top of the eighth.

Josh Donaldson, cleared to play after passing concussion tests, hit a solo homer in the bottom of the second.

Blue Jays starter Marcus Stroman overcame a difficult first two innings to put in a solid performance. He scattered five hits over seven innings in his first post-season start, striking out five while surrendering three earned runs.
