A look at the travellers’ weather forecast for the long weekend

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The long weekend is here… are you escaping for Thanksgiving?

NEWS 1130 Meteorologist Russ Lacate is taking a look at some travellers’ weather for those headed out of town.

Southern Interior

“Those who may be hoping to escape the tropical storm but benefit from some of that tropical air can hit the road and head east because the Southern Interior forecast for the Okanagan, Shuwap, Kamloops — all the neighbouring districts — are very mild today, near 20 degrees. That’s under a lot of clouds but little, if any, precipitation,” says Russ.

“In fact, even the rain on the coast tomorrow is significantly delayed reaching the Southern Interior. For that matter, there some sunshine in your Sunday forecast. You’ll do well if you’re headed towards the Southern Interior,” he adds.

Whistler area

“For Whistler and some of the neighbouring sections of Sea-to-Sky country — specifically into Squamish — I think you’ll get the worst that post-tropical storm Oho has to offer through the course of the long weekend,” Russ tells us.

“The rain has already arrived. The neighbouring areas around the north end of Howe Sound has a heavy rainfall warning in effect; that’s for amounts upwards of 80mm over the next 24 hours. It’s significantly wetter tonight and tomorrow and still rather showery Sunday and Monday. I wouldn’t count on much sun in the Whistler region for this long weekend.”

Seattle

“I really think that cross-border shoppers could almost stay a step ahead of mother nature for today, with temperatures up to 21 degrees in Seattle and some light and intermittent precipitation. The trouble is, if you stay the night, then you’re putting up with almost a direct hit from a pulse of stronger wind and widespread downpours on Saturday. It’s going to be a stormy start for the long weekend in Seattle,” he predicts.
