NEWS 1130 Worst Commute winner spends a quarter of his monthly pay on driving

LOWER MAINLAND (NEWS 1130) – Imagine working a week every month just to pay for the privilege of commuting. That’s the reality for our latest winner in our hunt for “Vancouver’s Worst Commute.”

Ryan Morris is a single dad who drives in from Chillwack every day.

“My day consists of driving from Chilliwack to either the West End in Vancouver or to Richmond. So essentially, I’ve got between 3.5 and five hours a day on top of my eight-hour day.”

Ryan figures he spends one week out of every month working just to pay for the drive.

“I pay $155 for tolls to get over the Port Mann Bridge, my gas cost is $400 a month, and then add on my insurance at $155 — you’re looking at $700 in commuting fees.”

Ryan’s tale of woe earns him $500 from Jim Pattison Volkswagen Surrey and the chance at a trip to Mexico with Transat Vacations.
