Another anti-gang forum targets vulnerable youth in Surrey

By

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – Community groups are hammering home an anti-gang message to hundreds of kids hoping they stay out of trouble.

The organizer of a crime forum in Surrey spoke with NEWS 1130 after nearly four dozen shootings in the city so far this year.

Kal Dosanjh with Kids Play says they’re hoping graphic images, videos of people living in the downtown east side and gang members whose lives were ruined by crime and drug addiction will get these kids to stay on course.

“These kids realize there’s easy money in the drug trade, they want the fancy cars, the bling, the lifestyle that goes with that, but what we’re trying to teach these kids if you do try to pursue that lifestyle, it’s a very destructive result.”

He says these tragic stories come from all parts of society.

“Individuals that came from good middle-class families and, unfortunately, ended up running with the wrong crowd, getting into drugs.”

He says the meeting, targeted at South-Asian teens, focused on identifying behaviours and how to make changes for the better.
