Liberals out front in two polls as election day approaches

By

With just five days to go until election day, the Liberals are breaking away from the pack, taking the lead in two of the latest polls.

An Ipsos survey released on Tuesday shows the Grits have 37 per cent support nationally, which the polling agency says was driven by gains in Ontario.

The Conservatives are in second place with 31 per cent, while the NDP is third with 24 per cent.

The Liberals gained five points since last week while the Tories and New Democrats each dropped two points.

The poll, which was conducted for Global News, surveyed 1,349 voters Oct. 9-13 and is accurate to within plus or minus three percentage points, 19 times out of 20.

The Ipsos numbers are a close match to an Ekos Politics survey that shows the Liberals are in front with 36 per cent support, followed by the Conservatives at 31 per cent. The NDP is in distant third with 21 per cent.

The Ekos poll surveyed 1,115 voters between Oct. 10-12, and its margin or error is plus or minus 2.9 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
