Canucks open five-game homestand with a loss to the Blues

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Jared McCann and Daniel Sedin scored goals for Vancouver late in regulation but the Canucks comeback attempt fell just short as they lost 4-3 to the St. Louis Blues. Brandon Sutter had the other Vancouver goal.

The Canucks were coming off back-to-back road wins over Anaheim and Los Angeles on Monday and Tuesday. The loss was their first in regulation this season, dropping their record to 3-1-1.

Jori Lehtera of the Blues had the only goal in the first period and then Alex Steen and Robert Bortuzzo scored in the second period to put St. Louis up 3-0 just past the midway mark.

Vancouver got on the board at the 12:38 mark of the middle frame. Brandon Sutter and Alex Burrows broke in on a two-on-one while shorthanded, and Sutter fired one five-hole on Jake Allen for his 100th career goal.

St. Louis took its three-goal lead back with only 3:46 to play in regulation as Kyle Brodziak beat Ryan Miller.

Rookie forward Jared McCann got that goal back 30 seconds later as he scored his second goal of the season by finishing off a give-and-go with Burrows.

Daniel Sedin then scored with just 28 seconds to play, cutting the Blues lead to one. He stayed on the ice and had a chance to tie the game with about six seconds left, as he and Henrik Sedin worked a give-and-go, but Daniel had his shot hit a Blues defender and deflect wide.

Miller made 28 saves to take the loss, while Allen turned aside 31 shots for St. Louis.

The Canucks will continue their five-game road trip on Sunday against Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers.
