Pattullo Bridge closed this weekend for repairs

NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS 1130) – The aging Pattullo Bridge will be closed as of Friday night as it undergoes more repairs to ensure it’s safe for drivers.

There are a number of potholes that have opened up on the bridge deck that need to be filled. TransLink is spending about $150,000 on these repairs.

“There have been several repairs made to the Pattullo Bridge already but due to the location of the potholes a full closure is required,” says Jennifer Morland with the transit authority.

The crossing will be closed to all vehicle traffic from 9 p.m. until 12 p.m. on Sunday. Emergency vehicles will still be allowed to use the bridge and the sidewalk will stay open for cyclists and pedestrians.

Anyone who typically takes transit over the bridge will be re-routed and should expect longer travel times on two routes. The N19 NightBus will re-route via the Alex Fraser and Queensborough Bridges, while the #321 on Sunday morning will end at Scott Road.

More extensive deck repairs are planned for 2016 as part of the broader rehabilitation of the bridge.
