Canucks head to Dallas for a date with the Stars

DALLAS (NEWS 1130) – Vancouver kicks off a two game road trip tonight in Texas against the Stars. Dallas is one of the top scoring teams in the league and Victoria native Jamie Benn leads the NHL in points. Ben Hutton says Vancouver has to find a way to shut Benn and Tyler Seguin down.

“They are obviously elite players, so I got to be very aware defensively. I just have to go out there and keep playing my game and work whatever partner I am with and just play my game.”

Brendan Gaunce will make his NHL debut, replacing the injured Brandon Prust. The 2012 1st round pick is excited for the opportunity.

“Playing in the NHL is something I have wanted to do my entire life. It is a very rewarding feeling for all the work I have put in on the ice over the last 15-years.”

Gaunce will play on the fourth line alongside Derek Dorsett. The grinder says he will do his best to make the youngster feel comfortable on the ice.

“I am just going to tell him to have fun and play hard and everything will fall in to place. He can’t think about it too much and we are trying to give him some space. I’m sure it will be a nervous day for him and he will be running on some nerves and that is a good thing, so we will just go from there.”

The Canucks have lost seven straight games to Dallas. Dan Hamhuis will not play because of a lower body injury. Matt Bartwoski replaces him in the lineup. Ryan Miller will likely get the start in net. The puck drops at 5:30 p.m. and you can watch the game on Sportsnet Vancouver.
