Canucks wrap up their road trip with a loss to the Jets

WINNIPEG, MB (NEWS 1130) – A dreadful road trip for the Canucks came to an end with another loss, as Drew Stafford and Mark Scheifele scored twice each to lift Winnipeg to a 4-1 victory over Vancouver. The Canucks went 1-4-2 on their seven-game trip.

The Jets had the only goal in the first period, as Mark Scheifele delayed and beat Ryan Miller for a powerplay goal just under six minutes in. It was the first of two goals on the night for Scheifele, as he scored to put the game away with 2:45 left in regulation.

Daniel Sedin had tied the game for Vancouver, as he scored on a second period powerplay for his seventh goal of the season. That gives him the team goal-scoring lead.

Drew Stafford put Winnipeg ahead for good, as he beat Ryan Miller off a rebound late in the second period. Stafford also added an empty-netter to round out the scoring. Miller made 30 saves in the loss, which drops his record to 5-7-5. Ondrej Pavelec turned aside 29 shots at the other end.

Alex Grenier made his NHL debut for Vancouver after being called up from Utica of the AHL earlier in the day. He had four shots on goal in just under nine minutes of ice time.

The Canucks also lost their final game at home before leaving for the trip, giving them seven losses over their past eight games. They’ll try to get back on track when they host the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday night.
