Schneider shines as New Jersey beats the Canucks

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Goaltender Cory Schneider stole the show, as he made 36 saves against his former team, lifting the New Jersey Devils to a 3-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks. It was the eighth loss in 10 games for the Canucks.

Schneider was eased into the game as he only had to make six stops in the first period. The teams remained goalless after 20 minutes.

Early in the second period, the Devils got on the board with a powerplay goal. Mike Cammalleri beat Jacob Markstrom just 65 seconds into the middle frame for his seventh goal of the season.

New Jersey took advantage of another powerplay early in the third period to double its lead. Andy Greene took a long shot that fooled Markstrom to make it 2-0, and Cammalleri drew an assist for his second point of the game.

The Canucks were finally able to get on the board with 12:39 to play in regulation. Daniel Sedin forced Schneider to turn the puck over and then he set up Henrik Sedin for a shorthanded goal to make it 2-1. It was the seventh goal of the season for the Canucks’ captain.

New Jersey restored its two-goal lead just over two minutes later. Adam Henrique banked home his own rebound to make it 3-1, and with an assist on the goal, Cammalleri made it a three-point night.

Radim Vrbata scored on the powerplay with less than one second to play to cut the deficit to 3-2. Vrbata had been turned aside by Schneider on a penalty shot earlier in the game.

The Canucks will kick-off a four-game road trip on Wednesday against the Minnesota Wild.
