Vancouver developer donating temporary housing to Syrian refugees, wants others to do same

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A Vancouver property developer offering free temporary housing to Syrian refugees is appealing for others to do the same.

Daljit Thind with THIND Properties says when refugees arrive, there is often no place for them to go in the short term. “We have some space, and we can offer this. So, they can live in shelter and not in the cold.”

He’s promising free housing for at least a couple of months to help with the transition.

“We encourage all the developers — even people who have basements or other places — [to] offer a space to these people who really need it.”

The property along the Kingsway corridor has seven units available, with two to four bedrooms each. Thind believes up to two families could potentially live in each space.

He was inspired to help by his own journey to Canada as an immigrant.
