Manslaughter charge recommended in Vancouver man’s death after single-punch attack

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Vancouver Police are recommending a manslaughter charge against a 26-year-old man after a single-punch attack this past summer that killed a 60-year-old man.

It happened around 1 a.m. on August 11th.

The man got into an argument outside the Shenanigans Nightclub on Robson Street. The victim was punched and knocked to the ground. He suffered what was initially thought to be a minor head injury and was taken to the hospital but refused treatment and left.

Later, paramedics were called to his West End apartment building and found him unresponsive on the floor. He returned to the hospital with a serious brain bleed.

This comes just a day after the VPD spoke out about a disturbing trend of “one-punch assaults,” leaving people either with life-altering injuries or dead.

In the most recent attack, a man was walking home with his wife when he was suddenly punched in the face. His head hit the pavement and his injuries are so severe, he has brain damage and can’t walk.
