VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A verdict has been reached in the gruesome samurai sword attack of a teen in East Vancouver two years ago.

A jury has found Amritpal Dhillon and Amritpaul Rakhra guilty of manslaughter for the death of 19-year-old Manraj Akalirai after five days of deliberating.

Dhillon was facing the more serious charge of second degree murder.

During the trial in BC’s largest courtroom, the jury heard how a fight and chase began between a group of men in the quiet East Vancouver neighbourhood and ended with the victim getting hit with a gold club and then nearly decapitated with a sword.

The two men, both in their early twenties, will be back in court for sentencing on December 9th.
