Canucks open road trip with a loss against the Blackhawks

CHICAGO, IL (NEWS 1130) – Corey Crawford turned aside all 30 shots he faced to lead the Chicago Blackhawks to a 4-0 win over the Vancouver Canucks. The result snaps the Canucks’ winning streak at two games.

Patrick Kane extended his point streak to 26 games with an assist on the opening goal. Duncan Keith got the goal as he beat Ryan Miller with a quick shot on a Chicago powerplay 11:51 into the first period. Kane’s streak is the longest of its kind since Mats Sundin had a 30-game streak with the Quebec Nordiques in 1992.

The Blackhawks doubled the lead with 8:24 remaining in the third period. Ryan Miller got a piece of Brian Bickell’s shot, but Dennis Rasmussen was there to poke it home for his second goal of the season.

Vancouver thought it had cut the deficit in half on the powerplay, as Henrik Sedin slid home a loose puck. The goal was immediately waved off though, as Daniel Sedin used a hand-pass to get the puck to his brother.

Chicago’s Andrew Shaw added an empty-netter, and then Brandon Mashinter beat Miller with just 10 seconds left for his first career goal. Miller made 26 saves in the loss, and despite the result, he feels they played the right way.

“I liked our effort tonight and our systems have been a lot better. If we play like that more, we’ll win more games”

The Canucks were playing the opening game of a six-game road trip. They continue the trip on Tuesday against the Minnesota Wild.
