Canucks crushed by the Wild for a second straight loss

ST. PAUL, MN (NEWS 1130) – Mikko Koivu and Thomas Vanek put up four points each for Minnesota as the Wild cruised to a 6-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks. Jannik Hansen and Daniel Sedin scored the Vancouver goals.

Vanek opened the scoring on a Minnesota powerplay 5:17 into the opening period. It was the seventh straight road game that the Canucks allowed a powerplay goal.

Jason Zucker made it 2-0 before the first period was up as he was the beneficiary of a nice move from Vanek. The Wild scored again on the powerplay 5:25 into the second period to extend its lead to 3-0. Zach Parise was left alone at the side of the net and after a few attempts he finally put one past Ryan Miller.

Vancouver got some life just 80 seconds after the Parise goal. Minnesota goalie Darcy Kuemper gave the puck away to Henrik Sedin, who fed Hansen for an easy goal, his ninth of the season.

The Wild responded with goals from Koivu, Ryan Suter and Marco Scandella though, as they took a 6-1 lead into the second intermission. Miller allowed six goals on 36 shots through 40 minutes and was replaced by Jacob Markstrom to begin the third period.

Another Minnesota turnover resulted in a Canucks’ goal in the third, and once again it was Henrik getting the puck, as he set-up brother Daniel for his team-leading 14th goal of the season. The Sedins and Hansen were the only Canucks’ forwards to record a plus-rating.

Minnesota scored on its first three powerplays of the night and ended the game 3-for-5 with the man-advantage. The Canucks did not have a powerplay attempt.

Vancouver has now lost back-to-back games to begin its six-game road trip. The trip continues Thursday against the Philadelphia Flyers.
