VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Big news for all you basketball fans, after a drought that’s lasted over 14 years, the sport is coming back to the Lower Mainland.

Vancouver will host an annual NCAA Division 1 basketball tournament, featuring some of the biggest college basketball teams from the United States.

The first Vancouver Showcase will be in November of 2017, and will be held at the Vancouver Convention Centre.

It’s projected to attract thousands of fans and donors, bringing big money into the city.

“All in all, studies show that the economic impact can exceed $2 Million US in that one week. Given Vancouver, we anticipate that to be much greater”, says Brooks Downing, President and CEO of bd Global.

Co-founder of the Canadian National Teams Alumni Association and basketball legend Howard Kelsey adds, “[This is] one of the most important basketball announcements in Vancouver’s history,” along with the NBA’s announcement that the Grizzlies were awarded to the city decades ago.
