White Christmas may be more than just a dream this year

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Dreaming of a white Christmas in the lower mainland usually ends up just a dream, but maybe not this year.

Historically we have White Christmas once every 10 years or so – and meteorologist Russ Lacate says this may be that year.

“Looking at the latest long-range weather charts … so much for El Nino! Over the next 10 days it’s decidedly colder than normal [and] we have unsettled conditions. I mean, no promises yet, but there is reason to be hopeful for snowflakes in time for the holidays.”

Environment Canada defines the perfect Christmas forecast as having at least two centimeters of snow on the ground and snow on Christmas Day.

That’s only happened here four times since 1955.
