Most Canadians still have holiday shopping left to do

Is it really last *minute* when there are still four *days* left?

It seems a whole lot of us have been procrastinating before braving the Christmas crowds at the malls.

An Angus Reid poll for CIBC finds, as of a few days ago, 69 per cent of Canadians still hadn’t finished their holiday shopping and 15 percent hadn’t even started yet.

And that can come with a cost.

The survey also found 20 per cent of “last minuters” fully expect to go over their budget and almost a quarter don’t even set a budget!

NEWS 1130 hit the streets for some seasonal advice from people picking up last minute gifts.

“I just try to avoid the malls completely. They are insane,” says Cara. “I got pushed into a balloon display once! They’re nuts. That’s another reason I don’t go.”

“I’ve actually got it all done,” gloats Winston, who is among the 31 per cent who had already wrapped up their Christmas shopping this year. “That’s the first time. Normally it’s a last-minute, Christmas Eve kind of deal. It actually feels really good to have it all done,” he tells NEWS 1130.

The poll finds Millennials — Canadians age 18 to 34 — are the biggest procrastinators.

And way to go stereotypes!

Among those who haven’t started their shopping yet, more men than women say they have not bought a single gift yet.
