North Shore Rescue still waiting to see how much funding they will get from the province

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Local search and rescue teams are applauding this week’s funding announcement from the province.
The question now is how the 10-million-dollars gets divided up?
The BC Search and Rescue Association (SRA) is still working on how the money will be dispersed among 80 teams in the province.
Mike Danks with North Shore Rescue (NSR) hopes their increasing call volume factors in.
“When we have that many calls, we are putting that much more wear and tear, if you will, on our infrastructure and our equipment. We are very confident that BC SAR will come up with a formula that works with everyone because again, it’s not really a one size fits all.”
Danks says they don’t know how much money NSR will be getting yet.
“The money will go to good use. Whatever amount it is, we have a number of initiatives that we are working on currently and also, a big thing for us right now is our prevention education because we are having a real tough time keeping up with all of the requests that we are getting.”
It costs about half-a-million dollars a year to keep the volunteer-driven group on the mountains.
With 138 calls answered, NSR had its busiest year ever in 2015.
