Christy Clark tries to leverage BC’s economic success on trip to Ottawa

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Our premier is using the success of BC’s economy to convince Ottawa for more federal funding for mega-projects in this province.

Christy Clark is referring to projects like the Massey Tunnel replacement.

She says she told Prime Minister Justin Trudeau BC needs more federal money to keep growth going.

“We really are the only bright spot in the country right now. There is so much uncertainty, so much debt, so many people unemployed. When you look at a map of the country, the only bright spot you see if British Columbia because we’re strong, we’re diverse and we’re growing,” she says.

She says we will also be asking for funding for a proposed billion-dollar project to plug Alberta’s coal-fired power plants into BC’s hydro grid.

“Alberta has promised to get off coal finally. We are 93 per cent clean in our energy product in British Columbia. We can help them by supplying them with energy so that they can find a way to shut down those coal plants.”

Delta Mayor Lois Jackson hopes Clark is successful with her pitch about the Massey.

“We have been working on this project and this need for a very, very long time,” says Jackson.

She says the bridge is essential to the region.
