Struggling Canucks hit the road for game in Calgary

CALGARY (NEWS 1130) – Having lost six straight games on home ice, the Canucks are welcoming a road game with open arms when they face the Flames in Calgary tonight. Vancouver is coming off a 5-2 loss to the Ducks last night.

Captain Henrik Sedin says getting away from Rogers Arena will be good for the team.

“I think it is good for us to get away and play on the road. It is no secret we need a good game, get a win and get something going. It has been an uphill battle for a few games and we need to get wins or otherwise we can stop talking about making the playoffs.”

Sven Baertschi scored his 12th of the year last night and he hopes he can score a couple this evening against his former team.

“We need to refocus. It has been a tough few days, but I think we can do it. We have a chance to regroup, get to Calgary, look at the video and see what we can do better. We just have to be ready and prove ourselves out there.”

Vancouver sits eight points out of the final playoff spot in the Western Conference, but Coach Willie Desjardins says the team is far from throwing in the towel.

“You have to win some hockey games before you get some belief. We have to win some games and that is what we are concentrating on. It is not going to get easier. We have to keep going and keep playing.”

Jacob Markstrom gets the start in net while the Flames counter with Jonas Hiller.

It is the third meeting of the year between the Canucks and Flames. Vancouver has compiled a 1-1-1 record against their Alberta rivals this season.

The puck drops at 6 p.m. and you can watch the game on Sportsnet.
