Canucks rally to beat the Senators

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Matt Bartkowski and Emerson Etem had two goals each and Jake Virtanen also scored, as the Vancouver Canucks came from behind to beat the Ottawa Senators 5-3 at Rogers Arena. It was the second straight win for the Canucks.

Etem opened the scoring for Vancouver just under five minutes into the game. Linden Vey put the puck on net and Etem banked home the rebound on the backhand for his second goal of the season.

Mike Hoffman tied the game for Ottawa on a deflection later in the first period, and then the Senators took their first lead of the night when Mark Stone beat Ryan Miller from the left side for a shorthanded goal 13:02 into the second period.

The Canucks got the goal back 1:22 later, as Bartkowski scored on a point shot for a powerplay goal. Markus Granlund drew the first assist, which gave him his first point with Vancouver in his debut with the team. Ottawa regained the lead before the period was over though, as Bobby Ryan scored off a feed from Marc Methot with the teams playing four-on-four.

Vancouver took the game over in the third period. Bartkowski tied it up again as he took a feed from Virtanen and hammered a shot past Craig Anderson to make it 3-3. Virtanen then put the Canucks ahead for good with a powerplay goal, which gave the rookie the first multi-point game of his career.

Etem added a goal into the empty net for his first two-goal game as a member of the Canucks.

Miller made 27 saves to pick up the victory.

The Canucks continue their homestand on Sunday against the San Jose Sharks.
