Fundraiser brings in money to help vulnerable women on streets of Surrey

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Ahead of International Women’s Day tomorrow, the third annual “Unmasking the Truth” event focuses on women helping women.

“How we cope when we’re going through the process of pain, and what it is that fuels us through that,” says MaryAnne Connor, founder and president of NightShift Ministries, who adds tonight’s theme is Beauty Beyond The Pain.

“I think hearts are going to be touched in a profound way. I really do.”

The money brought in tonight will go towards their Care Counselling Centre.

“This year will highlight the care centre and hopefully not just raise awareness, but raise funds so that we can provide counselling to women who need it,” explains Connor. “This centre appeals to not only women, but to anyone in the community who needs someone to listen to. No one is ever turned away because of a lack of funds.”

A fashion show will feature clothes from their partner thrift store, Sisters Boutique. A panel discussion will also include high-profile authors and politicians.

“We’ll be talking about subjects that generally we shove under the rug. So we make an effort to be open, transparent, and vulnerable in order to discuss some tough issues,” says Connor.

This is the third year in a row the event has been sold out. It’s being held at the Eaglequest Golf Course starting at 6 p.m.
