Emotional Peyton Manning officially retires

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Peyton Manning’s voice cracked with emotion as he officially ended his storied 18-year NFL career.

At a news conference Monday, the 39-year-old Manning announced his retirement just over a month after helping the Denver Broncos win Super Bowl 50.

Manning, who played 13 seasons with the Indianapolis Colts before joining Denver as a free agent, leaves as the NFL’s all-time leading passer and league leader in wins for a starting quarterback.

He also noted that he still owns the NFL record for 28 interceptions as a rookie, and says every year he pulls for a rookie to break that record.

Manning, who won a Super Bowl title with Indianapolis in 2007, is the only starting quarterback to win NFL titles with different teams.
