Hollywood lines up against Georgia religious exemption bill

ATLANTA – Hollywood actors and producers say they will take projects elsewhere if Georgia’s governor fails to veto a bill protecting same-sex marriage opponents.

A letter sent Thursday to Gov. Nathan Deal by the Human Rights Campaign includes actors and producers like Kristin Chenoweth, Anne Hathaway, Julianne Moore, Rob Reiner and Harvey Weinstein.

Georgia’s tax credits have drawn the film and TV industry here.

The bill prevents government burden of religious belief or penalty against faith-based organizations, including refusal to serve or hire someone. It protects clergy who won’t perform gay marriages and people who won’t attend a wedding. Deal has until May 3 to act. He opposed earlier versions but hasn’t commented on the final bill.
