Whitecaps return home to battle Houston

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – It’s a chance for the Vancouver Whitecaps to return to .500 tonight as the Houston Dynamo visit BC Place. (7pm)

As far as story lines go, the biggest is the Whitecaps roster, which will be missing some key bodies due to international commitments. That includes a pair of centre backs in Tim Parker and Kendall Waston, along with Blas Perez, and Christian Bolanos will not be available for Carl Robinson on Saturday night.

Even with plenty of talent missing, David Ousted is still in goal for Vancouver, and he was asked about that hurdle this week.

“We claim to have good depth with this team.” Ousted said.

“We’ll be able to show it now. I have no problem with the guys coming in to fill out for the guys on international duty. I think we have the depth for it. I think the guys who are next in line are ready to step up. It shouldn’t be an excuse.”

No matter who fills in, this is a club with something to build on following a big road win in Seattle last week over the Sounders. Pedro Morales scored twice from the spot in that match up, and now leads the team in goals with three this season. Goals haven’t been a problem for Houston (1-1-1) early on this year, with 11 as a group in three matches. Andrew Wenger has impressed so far with a pair of markers, but Will Bruin leads the way with three of his own.

After Saturday night, the Whitecaps will welcome the LA Galaxy to BC Place on April 2nd.
