Low Canadian dollar could help summer festival

MERRITT (NEWS 1130) – The low loonie could be good news for at least one summer music festival.

The dollar’s drop could lead to Americans making two-stepping their way into BC Interior.

Organizers with the Merritt Rockin’ River Fest are optimistic country music fans will make their way to the interior this summer as the loonie and gas prices continue to stay relatively low.

Although crude oil and the Canadian dollar’s value have rallied in the past month, analysts still say they are both low enough that industries such as tourism will feel a positive impact this summer.

Leah Primeau with the festival says she has noticed a lot of travellers are coming north of the border already.

“We’ve seen it certainly in the destinations areas, such as Whistler, the Sea to Sky, and Vancouver itself and I don’t know when it’s going to end.”

The Merritt music festival goes from July 28th to the 31st and features artists like Dean Brody, John Michael Montgomery, and Sam Hunt.
