Canucks rally to beat the Ducks

ANAHEIM, CA (NEWS 1130) – Emerson Etem broke a tie with 6:37 to play and Jacob Markstrom made 34 saves as the Vancouver Canucks made it back-to-back wins with a 3-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks.

The Canucks were fresh off of a 4-2 win over the Sharks in San Jose on Thursday night, which snapped a nine-game losing streak.

The Ducks got on the board less than a minute into the game. Jannik Hansen missed a great chance for Vancouver at one end, and then Anaheim came back down the ice and Josh Manson picked up a loose puck and fired it up and over Markstrom just 48 seconds in.

Vancouver responded a few minutes into the second period. Jannik Hansen delivered a perfect stretch pass to spring Bo Horvat, who made a move and beat John Gibson to tie the game 1-1. It was his 14th goal of the season, which surpasses his total from his rookie campaign.

Anaheim regained the lead a little bit shy of the midway mark in the third period. Chris Wagner’s initial attempt was stopped by Markstrom, but Nate Thompson followed up on the play and scored on the rebound to make it 2-1.

The Canucks got back on level terms just 2:20 after the Thompson goal. Dan Hamhuis came off the left boards and fired a shot through a Hansen screen and past Gibson for his third goal of the season.

Etem gave the Canucks their first lead of the night 2:21 after the Hansen tally. He picked up a rebound off an Alex Biega point shot and slid home his fourth goal of the season to make it 3-2. Horvat picked up an assist for his second point of the night.

Forwards Chris Higgins and Linden Vey left the game early for Vancouver. Higgins left with a lower-body injury, while Vey suffered an upper-body injury.

The Canucks will try to put together their first three-game winning streak of the season when they host the Los Angeles Kings on Monday.
