Whitecaps eye third straight win vs. visiting Galaxy

(VANCOUVER) NEWS 1130 – The Vancouver Whitecaps (2-2-0) have plenty to build on heading into Saturday’s matchup with the LA Galaxy (2-1-0) at BC Place. (7pm)

After a two match stumble to begin the season, the ‘Caps have clawed their way back to .500, the most recent effort a 1-0 victory over the Houston Dynamo – the most explosive offensive squad so far in MLS this season.

That result came despite Vancouver missing some prominent pieces – including a pair of centre-backs – in Tim Parker and Kendall Waston due to international commitments. Those two are available to Carl Robinson on Saturday, along with Blas Perez and Christian Bolanos.

The Galaxy have been historically known for big name lineups, but a pair of big names won’t be available for the visitors tonight, as both Robbie Keane and Steven Gerrard are out with injuries. Whitecaps head coach Carl Robinson was asked about that earlier in the week, but knows the LA roster will still provide a difficult task for his club.

“It’s a game we’ve got to look forward to, expecially at home. We’ll have thousands of fans out there supporting us. We’re ready to give them a game, but we know it’s not going to be easy.”

It wouldn’t be fair for the Whitecaps to rely on offensive production from the spot – four goals have been scored on penalties this year, all by Pedro Morales. The other two markers were produced on set pieces.

Vancouver will hit the road for two following this match, with stops in Washington to face DC United on April 9th, followed by a battle with Real Salt Lake on April 16th.
