Canucks final road game of the season takes them to Calgary

CALGARY (NEWS 1130) – After an ugly loss to Edmonton last night, Vancouver will look for redemption this evening against the Flames. With just two games left in the season the Canucks are simply playing out the stretch. Derek Dorsett says his teammates have to find a way to bring the intensity.

“We have to find ways to get through it. There are job openings for next year and the guys have to find ways to bring that emotion and show that they want to compete and be in this league and that they belong in this league. There is lots on the line for a lot of guys in this locker room. We have to find a way to bring it every night and that is the mentality we have to have.”

Markus Granlund will suit up for Vancouver. He is playing in Calgary for the first time since being traded by the Flames. He says he’s had this game circled on his calendar.

“It is going to be a fun game. I am excited to be back here and playing. There is a lot of good friends on the other team so it is going to be fun.”

Granlund was acquired for Hunter Shinkaruk. The former Canucks prospect has enjoyed some early success in Alberta. He has scored twice in the last three games and he is looking forward to playing Vancouver.

“For the most part I have played pretty well. I have played my game and I need to keep creating chances, win my battles and if I do that, things will work out.”

Jared McCann will sit after suffering an injury last night. The Canucks have called up Ronalds Kenins from the AHL to take McCann’s spot. The Latvian has no points in six games with Vancouver this season.

Ryan Miller is expected to get the start in net.

The puck drops at 6 p.m. and you can watch the game on Sportsnet.
