Whitecaps get back on track with a win over Dallas

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – David Ousted made four saves for Vancouver as the Whitecaps earned their first win in nearly a month with a 3-0 victory over FC Dallas at BC Place. The shutout was Ousted’s third of the season.

The Whitecaps got a fortunate bounce to put an end to their three-match goalless drought. Kekuta Manneh’s swinging cross ball hit Dallas defender Maynor Figueroa and went in to put Vancouver ahead 1-0 in the 35th minute. The ‘Caps hadn’t scored since they beat Houston 1-0 on Mar. 26.

Ousted made one of his best stops of the season to preserve the Whitecaps’ lead in the 50th minute. Ousted was able to get an arm on a Michael Barrios attempt from point-blank to keep the ball out.

Defender Jordan Harvey doubled the lead off a set piece in the 63rd minute. The Vancouver corner kick was deflected to Harvey, who settled the ball with his first touch and then buried it with his right foot to make it 2-0. It was his second goal of the season.

Manneh gave the Whitecaps an insurance goal as he finished off a nice play in the 77th minute. Cristian Techera headed the ball forwards to Blas Pérez, who touched it past a Dallas defender, and then Manneh ran onto the ball and knocked it past a rushing Chris Seitz to make it 3-0.

The Whitecaps received a scare with about 10 minutes to go, as Ousted went up for a loose ball and collided hard with Dallas midfielder Fabian Castillo. Ousted stayed down for a couple of minutes and received a visit from the trainer but he stayed in the game.

With the victory, the Whitecaps’ record improves to 3W-1D-4L. The ‘Caps will host Sporting Kansas City on Wednesday.
