What to expect from Cécile McLorin Salvant at UBC this weekend

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The Chan Centre for the Performing Arts at UBC is set to host a young award winning jazz star this weekend.

Cécile McLorin Salvant will perform on Sunday.

Jazz is a genre that should be witnessed in person because every performance is different according to Wendy Atkinson with the Chan Centre.

She says you can expect new versions of old songs from this performer.

“Classic jazz songs, and she also unearths songs that have not been performed that often, she puts her own spin on it. She has a surprising sense of humour, she also likes to celebrate female jazz singers.”

Atkinson loves how she describes her newest record.

“When she recorded it she wanted it to be a ‘living record’ and by that she meant no edits, no over-dubs, a record made with ‘living people who aren’t perfect’ and I just love that quote from her.”

You can find tickets here.
