New interchanges considered in effort to ease Alex Fraser Bridge congestion

DELTA (NEWS 1130) – The province is hoping to build two new interchanges to get traffic flowing better around the Alex Fraser Bridge.

Nordel and Sunbury is where Transportation Minister Todd Stone wants these interchanges built.

“We’re just taking a really holistic view of all the roads — the entire road network,” says Stone. “Whether they’re provincial roads or Delta roads and so forth, to see if there isn’t a better way to flow the traffic around the Alex Fraser Bridge.”

He tells us the province has the money set aside for this project, but federal cash will be required for this to go ahead.

“We’re having some very productive conversations with the federal government on that as a potential project,” says Stone. “It would be a costly one, but that is another solution that would very clearly address a good amount of the congestion.”

It’s unclear if this plan would involve the removal of the traffic light at Highway 91 and 72nd Avenue.
