Whitecaps face slumping NYCFC at Yankee Stadium

NEW YORK (NEWS 1130) – The Vancouver Whitecaps can…Cap…a decent week with a strong showing at Yankee Stadium against NYCFC on Saturday afternoon. (1pm)

This will be the third match in eight days for a Vancouver club that earned a 1-1 draw with Sporting Kansas City on Wednesday night at BC Place, and a 3-0 victory over FC Dallas last Saturday.

Vancouver got in a bit of training in Central Park upon arriving in New York, and head coach Carl Robinson is looking forward to the Yankee Stadium experience.

“I watched a baseball game there when I was playing for the New York Red Bulls.” Robinson said this week.

“It’ll be different (playing in it) as a soccer match, but it’s a great environment to go and play. They have a fantastic organization, fantastic players. It’s going to be a very difficult game for us.”

NYCFC has struggled this season, posting one victory in eight matches so far. That one victory came in the opening week of the MLS season – 4-3 over the Chicago Fire.

There’s not much in terms of history to draw on with these two teams. It’s only the second head to head matchup all-time. NYCFC was victorious in Vancouver, 2-1 last season.

Kendall Waston won’t be available for Saturday’s match after getting tagged with a red card against Sporting KC on Wednesday night.

The Whitecaps will return home for two games starting May 7th, as the Portland Timbers visit, followed by a clash with the Chicago Fire on May 11th.
