Vancouver councillor wants special advisor tasked with lobbying against Kinder Morgan

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – It’s no secret the City of Vancouver is opposed to Kinder Morgan’s proposed expansion of the Trans Mountain Pipeline.

But one councillor wants to see a special advisor tasked with lobbying hard against the project.

“In the media, there have been very clear statements signalling from the Prime Minister to consider getting product in terms of oil products to market,” explains Adriane Carr.

She wants to stop that in its tracks, adding the National Energy Board is set to make a recommendation on the project to the government by May 20th.

The government will make its decision after that.

“So this is a perfect time to really emphasize this issue and the importance of stopping the Kinder Morgan Pipeline from going ahead,” she argues.

The mayor’s chief of staff is set to start as a special advisor next week to make sure Vancouver’s priorities are front and centre with the federal government.

Carr’s motion calling for Kinder Morgan to be a focus is set to go before council on Tuesday.
