Lead levels found in Delta schools’ drinking water

DELTA (NEWS 1130) – Elevated lead levels have been detected at a number of Delta schools, prompting the daily flushing of some drinking fountains and the removal of others.

The Delta School District says it is in the process of testing the water quality at all 31 of its schools and lead above the maximum allowable limit has already been detected at 19 facilities.

The district issued a statement yesterday saying there are no lead pipes at any Delta schools, suggesting the source of the problem is likely external.

Administrators and custodians began flushing the pipes daily at every school in late April and the district says water fountains at three schools have been removed.
