Water restrictions in Metro Vancouver starting tomorrow

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Before we hit a long, dry, hot stretch of weather — water restrictions are being brought in on Sunday in an effort to prevent last year’s chaos.

And that means you can only water your lawn as often as three times a week during Stage 1 and Metro Vancouver Utilities Chair Darrell Mussatto hopes it stays that way.

“We plan on having all three of our reservoirs at about close to 100 per cent between now and the beginning of June. So, we want to have them up really full so we’re able to go through long dry spells, if we have them again this year.”

Last year we went to Stage 3 but Mussatto adds they’re better prepared this year with the additional allocation of water at the Coquitlam Reservoir which has 80 billion litres of water. “We’re more concerned about what would happen in August, September or October. Right now whether we’re wet or dry is not really a big issue.”

The restrictions are being brought two weeks ahead of schedule and are expected to be lifted by October 15th.
