Vancouver bike share service set to launch mid-June

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Vancouver’s own bike share service Mobi is set to launch next month.

“We’re already seeing massive growth in cycling – it’s been our fastest growing form of transportation over the last decade,” says Jerry Dobrovolny with the City of Vancouver.

He adds the name, Mobi, essentially means “more bikes”.

By the end of summer, 1,500 bikes will be available at 150 Vancouver stations.

“Seven per cent of all trips in the city are now by bike, and 10 per cent of the trips to and from work are by bike. We expect that now with the bike share launching we’ll see even more growth over the next year.”

Helmets will be provided for users.

Preparations are underway for a mid-June launch, which includes identifying the best areas for share stations to help fill the gaps in the active transportation network.
