Christy Clark’s approval ratings slide further

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – It looks like Christy Clark’s problems may be catching up with her.

A new Angus Reid Institute poll has her down to 27 per cent support, her lowest showing since the last election.

University of the Fraser Valley Political Scientist Hamish Telford says the Liberals would do well to keep an eye on a number of trouble spots.

“I think they have treated the financing of political parties lightly, her own salary top up. And there’s some bigger things – the last election was all about LNG. She really promised the world, and three years later she hasn’t really delivered on it. Not tangibly anyway.”

Telford warns with a year to go until we head to the polls, her numbers are headed in the wrong direction.

“You don’t want to be going down at any time, particularly as you gear up for an election campaign. This summer will mark the unofficial start of the campaign. There will be the barbeques, the fundraisers, meeting the organizers. You want to be on an upswing at this part.”

Telford says Clark has come back from even lower popularity ratings before.
