WHITE ROCK (NEWS 1130) – Members of the White Rock Fire Department and the White Rock RCMP are investigating and have determined a massive fire earlier this month was deliberately set.
Over 100 people are out of their homes after the three-alarm fire.
“This fire and the resulting displacement of the building’s residents has understandably shaken our community. The fact that it is now believed this fire was intentionally set will likely cause further distress to those residents, ” says Cst. Chantal Sears with White Rock RCMP.
The fire started in a building that was under construction and spread to the mixed-use condo building.
The construction site was completely destroyed while the condo building suffered both heavy fire and water damage.
Sears has no word on any suspects at this time.
“We are now investigating it as a suspicious fire. [We have] brought in additional resources from neighbouring detachments serious crime sections and we are asking the pulbic to call us if they have any information.”
The fire was so large that the city’s water reservoirs were nearly drained by crews trying to stop it.
The whole city of White Rock was put on a boil water advisory as a result.
