Mechanical problem on cable ferry, 25 passengers towed back to dock

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – BC Ferries’ brand new cable ferry between Vancouver Island and Denman Island has already broken down and 25 passengers had to be towed back to the dock it left from this morning.

“We have had a mechanical problem with our cable ferry. The vessel was mid-strait when the incident occurred,” explained Deborah Marshall is with BC Ferries.

She says this is the only problem the vessel has experienced since it came into operation in February but engineers will be working to figure out how it happened so soon.

“We’re going to obviously want to fully understand exactly what happened.”

The ferry, which has made over 1,600 sailings so far, is now back up and running.
