BURNABY (NEWS 1130) – Students and staff at BCIT in Burnaby will see crews dealing with a mock emergency today.
The school’s Glen Magel says the test involving a simulated boiler explosion will put response teams to the test.
“It’s very realistic. Every body is going to be using the training education they’ve been given over a vast number of years,” says Magel.
“We carry a fairly large disaster program and exercise. Typically we’d look at scenarios similar to earth quakes, flooding (disasters) that would actually test as many of the teams as possible.”
A real boiler explosion tore apart a building on campus back in 2004, but no one was seriously hurt.
