VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – New technology is helping people connect with Vancouver’s past. It’s called On This Spot.
Andrew Farris founded the app. “Each spot on the tour is the precisely located spot where a photographer was standing when they took a historic photo. So when you get to that spot they can view an interactive ‘then and now’ photo of the spot we’ve taken.”
Farris says he got the idea when he was visiting Nagasaki because it can be hard to find some of these historical sites when the city changes so much over the years.
He wants people to see where this city comes from.
“Get more people interested and engaged with the history that surrounds them. Every city in the world has a fascinating amount of history to it and also a fascinating and really underappreciated amount of historic photos.”
Farris hopes to expand the technology outside of the Lower Mainland at some point.
The free app launches June 27th.
