Fredericton police say no threat after man spotted carrying gun case

FREDERICTON – Fredericton police say they have determined there is no threat to the public after a hunt for a “person of interest” seen carrying what was believed to be a firearm case.

Six schools in the city’s north side were locked down as a precaution while officers looked for the person who was seen crossing a walking trail on St. Mary’s Street Thursday morning.

By Thursday afternoon, police called the situation “resolved,” saying the person was carrying a hard-shelled gun case, but that there was no threat.

Leo Hayes High School, Gibson Neill Elementary, École Les Éclaireurs, Devon Middle School, Devon Park Christian School and Harold Sappier were all locked down during the investigation.
